Bicycle transport on buses and trains: No restrictions during the summer holidays
Summer holidays are for cycling
During the Hamburg summer holidays (24 July to 3 September 2025), the usual restrictions on taking bicycles on trains, buses and ferries will not apply, and bicycles may be taken at any time.
When and where can bicycles be taken?
Bicycles can be taken free of charge on underground trains, S-Bahn trains, AKN trains, buses and ferries. Except during the summer holidays, bicycles are not permitted during peak hours: Mon-Fri, 6am-9am and 4pm-6pm. There are no restrictions at weekends.
For safety reasons (use of motorways), the following bus routes are excluded:
X30 Felix-Jud-Ring (Mitte) - Harburg station
X33 Salomon-Petri-Ring - Witzhave, Oher Weg
X80 Lehfeld - Geesthacht, Besenhorst
X82 Lehfeld - Geesthacht, Besenhorst
4400 Lehfeld - Rönne, Brücke
7650 Bad Segeberg station (ZOB) - Geschendorf, Schottenkroog (West)
8800 Lehfeld - Geesthacht, Besenhorst
A11 U Niendorf Markt - A Ellerau (Bahnstraße)
Bicycle transport on regional trains
To transport a bicycle on the hvv's regional trains (R-Bahnen), you must purchase a bicycle day ticket RB/RE for €3.50. This allows you to take your bicycle with you as often as you like on all regional express or regional trains within rings A - F of the hvv on the day of validity.
Tip: If you are travelling beyond the hvv network or from outside the hvv network, the bicycle tickets listed below are also valid for the route specified on the bicycle ticket within the hvv network:
- Schleswig-Holstein tariff
- Lower Saxony tariff
- DB tariff
