After-work tour to Wilhelmsburg: a quick getaway with lots to see
Want to hop on your bike for a quick ride after a long day at work, school or university? We've put together a tour that's perfect for after work.
Head south through the Old Elbe Tunnel and the former free port area via Veddel and finally along the Norder- and Süderlebe to Wilhelmsburg. From there, you can take the S-Bahn back if you don't feel like pedalling anymore. Of course, you can also do the whole thing the other way round, getting on the train at the Landungsbrücken at the end.

Into the landing stages ...
... into the Old Elbe Tunnel, where our after-work tour begins. Depending on when you set off, the large goods lifts may already be closed, but the smaller passenger lifts run around the clock. On the other side of the Elbe, we are greeted by the cranes and facilities of Blohm & Voss, which we pass on our way through the former free port towards Veddel: a long, long straight stretch on the ‘harbour experience route’. It lives up to its name – especially if you take a little detour on the Veddeler Damm and pass the German Port Museum in Shed 50A. You don't necessarily have to go inside to get a good whiff of the harbour air: even the outdoor area and the view of the Elbe (after a short climb up the stairs to the quay wall) are pure harbour.
